This is a very different kind of dance album. "Myth Takes" is a mysterious piece with a very lively dance beat. There's something very clandestine and secretive about how the lyrics are nearly whispered.
"All My Heroes Are Weirdos" is colorful and festive with a carnival in Rio feel. "Must Be the Moon" is more like a disco song with a lot of sass. There's definitely a certain eccentricity to the music. "A New Name" could almost be a boy band hit if it weren't for the toy piano and other discordant elements.
"Heart of Hearts" has a very cool beat with erratic guitars amid the steady electronic bass line. It makes for a great dark underground sound. I also really like "Sweet Life" just because it's not always in tune and also, it does some really trippy stuff with electronics and percussion.
"Yadnus" is probably the most reliable as far as rhythm and theme goes. You can follow this song all the way through without it getting too weird, but it still is pretty weird and I can dig that.
"Bend Over Beethoven" is real funky, but again, it could be a boy band hit. There's a sort of immaturity to the piece that doesn't make it my favorite. The best part of the song is the interlude.
I would say this album is okay and I like the strangeness. There's certainly a lot going on in it and you could definitely turn it up at a party. It's a little psychedelic, a little funky, and what might be somewhat of a stretch to play at a discothèque all at once.
