Haha Sound by Broadcast
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars
Nothing like retro psychedelic electronica after a day at the doctor's office, a ride in the elevator, or being put on hold on the telephone for 20 minutes. Instead of the Muzak they play there, they should be playing Broadcast.
My favorite track is "Pendulum", which is very monotonic with trippy, distorting noises like ones that sound as if someone is struggling with the ignition of their car.
"Before We Begin" is reminiscent of an early 60s ballad in all its retro choral glory.
"Man Is Not A Bird" has killer high school marching band drumbeats combined with Trish Keenan's melancholic, sentimental vocals. Probably my second favorite track.
This band is definitely channeling the sixties with a psychedelic, modern sensibility that is both refreshing and surprising. Good stuff. Have a listen.
