19. Turn on the Bright Lights

Turn on the Bright Lights Turn on the Bright Lights by Interpol
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fantastic, killer beauty of an album. Fell in love with it the first time I heard it. "Leif Erikson" is probably one of my favorite songs of all time. There are other greats like "NYC", "Untitled", and "The New".

There's this monotone sort of beauty to Julian Plenti's vocals and a sophistication to the rhythms and guitars which make the melodies both haunting, slightly dissonant and unresolved, yet resonant and really very lovely.

This arty band from New York really did a fine job on their first album. There is an expansive beauty to their music that kind of reminds me of really modern architectural spaces like art museums with sleek, and yet simultaneously emotional installations.
